BRIGHTON MHLONGO INSPIRES YOUNG ATHLETES AHEAD OF THE ENGEN CHAMP OF CHAMPS AT THE INAUGURAL BECOMING A FUTURE DISKI  LEGEND WORKSHOP

Former professional goalkeeper and Engen Ambassador, Brighton Mhlongo, led the inaugural player development workshop ahead of the Engen Champ of Champs, inspiring young footballers to focus on personal growth, image building, and life beyond the game.

Drawing from his own journey as a professional footballer turned media personality and mentor, Mhlongo encouraged players to recognise that their careers on the field are only one part of their story.

“A sports career is short, and every athlete must think about life after the final whistle,” Mhlongo said. “Education, personal branding, and networking are key to staying relevant and creating opportunities long after your playing days are over.”

The interactive session explored lessons under themes such as Education: Your Game Changer On & Off the Field, Building Your Brand Early, Transferable Skills, and Being Coachable Again. Through these, Mhlongo highlighted how attributes like discipline, teamwork, and storytelling in sport translate directly into success in business, media, and everyday life.

He also urged players to take charge of their personal image, stressing that every interview, post, and interaction contributes to how they are perceived by clubs, sponsors, and fans.

“Your reputation is your legacy. What you do today shapes how the world sees you tomorrow,” he added.

The workshop formed part of Engen’s ongoing commitment to youth development and holistic player growth, ensuring that young footballers are equipped not only with technical ability but also with the mindset and skills to thrive beyond the pitch.
