ENGEN CHAMP OF CHAMPS DRAW SETS UP APPETISING WEEKEND OF YOUTH FOOTBALL

The battle lines have officially been drawn, as Engen in partnership with the Johannesburg Football Association conducted the Official Draw of the 2024 Engen Champ of Champs on Wednesday, 25 September.

The Marks Park Sports Complex in Johannesburg will once again play host to the much-anticipated finals set to take place between 27 – 30 September

This year’s Engen Champ of Champs is guaranteed a new winner after Mamelodi Sundowns (Boys U-18) as well as University of Johannesburg (Girls U-20) were both eliminated during the Engen Knockout Challenge in July this year.

This year’s edition promises to be even more exciting, with teams showing great improvement during the provincial knockouts that were attended by Engen Knockout Challenge ambassadors, Brighton Mhlongo, Thabo Senong as well as Akhona Makalima.

Wednesday’s draw for the three-day tournament produced some interesting ties, with Kaizer Chiefs headlining an interesting Group A in the boys’ section, while Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies stands out as one of the tournament favourites in Group A of the Girls section.

Sharing his thoughts on the draw outcome, Kaizer Chiefs Youth Coach and former players, David Mathebula said: “The team is looking forward to the tournament. This is a title we once lifted and with home ground advantage and a strong-willed team, we are confident of putting up a good showing that will hopefully produce the desired results”.

Also present at the draw was Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies coach, Andisiwe Mgcoyi who said: “Winning this tournament has given our players great confidence. The team knows the importance of winning such a tournament but we know that it will not be easy. We are competition against quality teams from across the country so we cannot take anything for granted” said a confident Mgcoyi
