ENGEN FUELS A NEW ERA IN RUGBY WITH UNITED RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP PARTNERSHIP

Engen, part of the Vivo Energy Group*, is proud to announce its official partnership with the Vodacom United Rugby Championship (URC), one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse rugby competitions.

Already a proud partner of the Springboks, Engen has stood behind the national team through their last two World Championships, including their triumphant 2019 and 2023 victories. The brand has also played a key role in grassroots rugby development through its support of Get Into Rugby, helping to grow the game from township fields to international stadiums.

Now, Engen is deepening its investment in the sport by partnering with the URC – a tournament that showcases top-tier rugby talent from South Africa, Ireland, Wales, Italy, and Scotland.

This strategic alliance brings together two powerful forces – Engen’s legacy of fuelling progress and the URC’s mission to unite rugby fans across hemispheres. The partnership will see Engen’s brand integrated across URC matchdays, digital platforms, and fan activations, with a shared commitment to community upliftment, youth development, and sporting excellence.

“At Engen, we fuel more than just vehicles – we fuel passions, ambitions, and communities,” said George Roberts, CEO of Engen. “Partnering with the URC as the Official Fuel Partner allows us to extend that purpose, building on our proud legacy in rugby, a sport that embodies resilience, unity, and pride.”

“Our commitment to fuelling communities and driving innovation makes this partnership with the URC a natural fit. Together, we aim to elevate the fan experience and help grow the game across continents,” continued Roberts.

The URC features 16 elite teams from South Africa, Ireland, Wales, Italy, and Scotland, and has become a global showcase of talent and competition. Engen’s involvement will amplify the league’s reach, especially in Southern Africa, where rugby is deeply woven into the cultural fabric.

Martin Anayi, CEO of the URC, commented: “Engen’s partnership with the Vodacom United Rugby Championship represents an exciting moment for rugby in South Africa and beyond. South African teams have consistently demonstrated world-class skill, resilience, and a competitive edge that strengthens our league at every level.

“Together with Engen, we aim to grow the game, support the next generation of players, and reinforce South Africa’s vital role at the heart of the URC’s journey.”

As part of the partnership, Engen will support various rugby initiatives, including themed matchday experiences that celebrate diversity and inclusion.

This collaboration reflects Engen’s broader commitment to fuelling the future – whether on the road, in the classroom, or on the rugby field.
