ENGEN FUELS SUCCESSFUL 2024 COMRADES MARATHON

The 97th edition of the Comrades Marathon concluded on Sunday 09 June, as proud and official fuel supplier of the Comrades Marathon, Engen marked a successful debut to the Ultimate Human Race.

The up-run which stretched to 85.9km saw more than 20 000 runners embark on the Engen-fuelled race, which marked yet another exciting milestone for South Africa’s leading fuel brand.

Leading up to the much-anticipated race Engen demonstrated its dedication to supporting runners, providing essential resources and fostering a sense of camaraderie among participants. From energy fuelling stations along the route to engaging activations, Engen’s presence was felt every step of the way.

Reflecting on a successful pilot partnership with the Ultimate Human Race, Engen’s Brand and Sponsorship Manager, Ms Tsholo Tiro said the leading fuel brand was honoured to have partnered with the biggest and most loved race on the continent, as this underscores their core ethos of being number one.

“As the official fuel supplier of the Comrades Marathon , Engen is honoured to have been a part of this extraordinary event. While this marks our first year of fuelling the greatest race in Africa, it further underscores our belief and brand goals of being a number one. Our recently launched, It’s Your Moment campaign was successfully brought to life today with thousands of runners realising and boldly acting on the realisation that it is your moment”, concluded an elated Tsholo.

Engen’s partnership with the Comrades Marathon also included engagement with the runners at the three-day expo earlier in the week where they provided valuable insights, and encouragement to help runners prepare for the challenge ahead.

The Engen-fuelled race concluded with South Africa’s very own Gerda Steyn clinching yet another Comrades Marathon gold medal, making this her third successive Comrades Marathon gold podium finish.

Steyn crossed the finish line at 05:49:46.

In the men’s section, Netherlands-born runner, Piet Wiersma finished first at 05:25:00.
