The eight teams set to contest the Western Cape leg of the Engen Knockout Challenge were officially decided on Saturday, 08 June – as the exciting youth competition concluded its second day ahead of the grand final on Sunday at the Erika Park Stadium in Cape Town.
Reigning champions, Stellenbosch FC rubber-stamped their quarter-final spot with a commanding 4-0 victory over Rangers FC in the boys division.
They will be joined by Hellenic who finished on the same number of points with the defending champions but fell short of finishing top of the Group thanks to Stellenbosch’s superior goal-difference.
Also joining the defending champions in the knockout stages is Cape Town City, who have raised their hands as firm favourites, Cape Town Spurs, Cape Ubuntu, Rebels United, SAFA Cape Town as well as Everton FC who complete the quarter-final line-up.
In the ladies’ section, Cape Town City completed a clean sweep of results after finishing top of Group A with three wins from as many games. They go through to the next stage alongside Magic Ladies from Group A.
RV United and Real Brazilians were the two top finishers in Group B, while Dangerous Heroes and Royal Titan Ladies finished top of Group C.
Spurs WFC and Ikamva Ladies complete the remaining eight clubs in the women’s section where the honours of being Western Cape champions, and representing the province at the Engen Champ of Champs in September will be at stake.
