WITS SPORT AND ENGEN SPORTS MOURNS THE PASSING OF FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATOR, JIMMY BAKOS

Joint Statement – It is with great sadness that we have learnt about the passing of football administrator and Engen Knockout Challenge legend, Mr Jimmy Bakos.

Jimmy passed away suddenly on Saturday, 15 June 2024, at the Engen Knockout Challenge qualifiers in Marks Park, Johannesburg.

Affectionately known as “Uncle Jimmy” by the football fraternity, he was a dedicated administrator committed to the youth, and renowned for advancing football in South Africa.

Jimmy formed part of the Wits University Football Club from the early 1980s and won numerous competitions including 6 consecutive SAU titles (now known as USSA). He later moved on to various SAFA structures in Gauteng, where he was involved in South Africa’s largest youth football tournament, the Engen Knockout Challenge, from 2010 to 2019 where he was part of the organising committee.

Jimmy joined Warriors FC / Capital City in 2022, where he brought a wealth of experience and insight as a renowned football administrator to the club.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bakos family, friends, football fraternity and those who knew him well.

May his soul rest in peace.
