The spirit of rugby, unity, and community came alive at the Boland Rugby Stadium on Saturday, 18 October 2025, as the Engen Get into Rugby Festival brought together young aspiring players from across the Cape Boland Region for a day filled with excitement, inspiration and development.
Hosted in partnership with the Boland Rugby Union and SA Rugby, the festival once again demonstrated Engen’s ongoing commitment to grassroots rugby development and nurturing the next generation of South African rugby heroes.
The festival inspired children between the ages of 6 and 13 to discover the sport while learning the values of teamwork, courage, and resilience. Participants engaged in rugby activities, skill-building sessions, and team challenges that celebrated the inclusive spirit of the game.
The Western Cape edition also placed strong emphasis on creating pathways for both young players and aspiring coaches, providing opportunities for mentorship and growth both on and off the field.
Representatives from Boland Rugby Union, SA Rugby, and Engen joined the day’s festivities, interacting with the players and encouraging them to pursue their rugby dreams.
“Through the Engen Get into Rugby Festival, we’re not only growing the game but also building confidence and character among the youth. We’re inspired by the potential of our future rugby heroes and their passion for the game,” said Engen’s Brand and Sponsorship Manager, Tsholo Tiro.
Coach Nikelwa Mkiva from Mbekweni Primary commended the initiative, adding: “The Engen Get into Rugby Festival continues to play a vital role in introducing the sport to young players at grassroots level. It provides a structured and supportive environment where children can develop key skills, learn the values of rugby, and begin their journey in the game. The partnership between Engen, Boland Rugby Union, and SA Rugby is making a real difference in our communities.”
The successful Western Cape festival follows a series of nationwide activations that continue to strengthen the foundation of South African rugby, reaffirming Engen’s belief that every great journey starts at grassroots level.
