From players to coaches, Engen is investing in every angle of youth football with respected coach and development guru, Thabo Senong set to lead a session for future coaches and technical teams as part of Engen’s Becoming a Diski Legend workshops.
Scheduled for 09 October, Becoming a Diski Legend kick-offs on the eve of the 2025 Engen Champ of Champs, which runs from 10-12 October at the Tuks High Performance Centre in Pretoria.
Coach Thabo’s session will run from 18h30 to 19h30 on 09 October, starting immediately after Brighton Mhlongo’s player focused Becoming a Diski Legend workshop (16h30 to 18h30).
This workshop will provide practical insights, international perspectives, and strategies to develop players, build cohesive teams, and elevate coaching impact both on and off the field
FIFA Talent Coach, Senong will guide aspiring coaches and technical staff through the essentials of building successful teams covering mindset conditioning, session planning, and communication strategies that maximize player development.
“Coaching isn’t just about winning games or building a résumé,” said Senong. “It’s about understanding your players, helping them grow, and creating an environment where they can thrive. Often, it’s not a lack of talent that holds a team back, it’s how the coach or technical staff structure sessions and communicate that makes the difference.”
Drawing from his experience working with teams across the world and navigating different coaching challenges, Senong will share practical insights on leadership, tactical thinking, and fostering a positive team culture. The workshop emphasises that coach and technical staff communication and preparation are just as crucial as strategy on the field.
“This session is about equipping young coaches and technical staff to build teams that perform not just on the pitch, but in every aspect of their development,” added Senong. “It’s about creating leaders who understand that nurturing talent today leads to success tomorrow.”
By hosting Becoming a Diski Legend, Engen is expanding its legacy in grassroots football.
“We are showing that development isn’t only about performance on the pitch but also about equipping aspiring coaches and technical staff with the tools and knowledge to excel, ensuring they are ready to guide their teams toward success,” said Tsholo Tiro, Engen’s Brand & Sponsorship Manger.
